This week’s focus of “Learning as a Fundamental”
geared me towards a very interesting article “Blended Learning of
Programming in the Internet Age.” This paper is very appropriate for our presently evolving world
of technology. The article presents the idea of having a “blended” approach to
teaching. The blended approach would include merging our classic “face-to-face”
instruction, with one that would be delivered to our students via the internet.
According to Djenic, the blended program was facilitated at the Advanced School of Electrical and Computer Engineering
(VISER) in Belgrade, Serbia. The program instilled various check points
to main the integrity of the focus and expectations. In addition to goals being set, the
program included dynamic visual literacy through interactive simulations; applications
for regular checking and self-checking of the attainment of knowledge; and
lastly use of technology through applications for regular communication on the
teaching material between students and lecturers.
Awesome! This article has started
to merge technology and facilitating instruction from being a working “concept”,
to being a working model. I feel that this is what we are trying to achieve
within our PLC’s for our students. We are working towards achieving effective
ways of teaching our students to help them achieve, all the while insuring that
technology is incorporated in that approach.
